I just dropped the Phaeton off for its 90K service. The dealer's estimate is around $300. What's the bill actually going to be? Jalop with the closest guess gets eleventy billion internets, my respect, and possibly an erotic cake.

With labor, I'm going to guess it's going to come to either about $3890.95 or $389.99

Why so specific? I'm German, I know how they think.

I figure 20% over the estimate is a fairly common figure for a dealership.

I'm going to assume the dealer forgot a zero or you made a typo. My guess is $3,012.42.

Hmm. You take good care of you car, so I'll give you two prices.

$1,250 will be what the dealer quotes you for all the work they 'recommend' including brakes, alignment, wheel balance and rotation, etc..

$525 will be what you pay for the 90k service plus a few extras they find.

So do you have a "Phaeton Fund" that automatically drafts from your check every pay period? I feel like someone with a Phaeton should.

Also, at least $500. I'm feeling conservative today.

Oil change and rotation for $350 sounds about right, but I'd start applying for a loan to pay for the 100k service. The timing belt is coming up soon, as are the spark plugs if it's the V8. Mine ate tires every 20-25k miles, and that was only a year of driving for me. I loved the car, but hated the maintenance costs. I ended up trading it in back in 2010 for a Fusion hybrid.

VW ownership! My dealer wanted to charge us $760 to replace a $3 bolt. Granted the bolt needed to be drilled out and re-tapped, but still. It took me an hour to do at home. They wanted to replace two hinges at $380 each and left greasy fingerprints all over the back of the headliner.

Hey, no fair @Jagvuar - That's the price including timing belt price maintenance, right? (Suggested for VW to be done at 80K, @90K is a'ight, so I guess...) , but an indie VW place would've charged approx $850 all-in. Timing belt job is not particularly different from the rest of the engine class found on Audis and VWs with V8s from 2002-2008 . After you do this one, blow the 100K service, its a glorified oil change basically. After timing belt you should be good for another 40-50K miles depending on the condition of your control arms and not having any issues with the air suspension shocks. Dont worry bro, my 04 made it to 140K with its original suspension. From there just keep it clean to avoid water getting in, and hoping your KESSY makes it from there.

Kinja'd!!! Jagvar > ciscokidinsf

Actually, I had the timing belt changed a year ago as part of the 80K service. For 90K, I had planned on just an oil change and wheel alignment, but they found busted gaskets and tie rods, hence the $1,133 bill.

80K service was much worse. With a set of new tires thrown in, that was $4,912.

Thank you for this reality check as Phaetons are really really inexpensive now. I still look longingly after 10 years. But (and there is always a but), this type of service and upkeep would break my piggy bank in a hurry quickly erasing any savings on a great road vehicle. So, so sad.
